About this artifact

Edwin Booth was from a theatrical family and became famous for his role as Hamlet. When his brother John Wilkes Booth assassinated Pres. Abraham Lincoln, Edwin left the stage until 1866. In 1869 he opened his own theater, but was not successful. In 1888, he founded the Players' Club in New York.
