Martha's Vineyard Museum
This is the "Declaration of Protest" for the Ship Mary, dated December 16, 1869 in Singapore. It is an official document, filled out at the U. S. Consulate, describing the circumstances under which the ship was damaged in a storm. It is signed by Grey Sewell, U. S. Consul and stamped with the official stamp. The documentation was used for insurance purposes.
