This 19th century ship's medicine chest contained many bottles of remedies like powdered rhubarb, used to treat dysentery. It also included some tools, for dental extractions, and a book titled "Direction For Knowing and Treating Diseases and Accidents Incident to Seamen," published by a New Bedford Drugist named Edward Munroe in 1835. The medicine chest was made by Wheelock, Finlay & Co., Wholesale Drugists, New Orleans.
