An entry in the Logbook for the ship Alexander Barclay describing a whale striking a whaleboat and injuring some of the crew. "Went down to Tortoies 30 miles to the Eastward of the Bluff in persuit of Whales Mr Courtney struck a calf the cow was down. The first he knew the cow come up under him struck an oar which Wounded 2 men which I fear will prove mortal to one. Struck the Whale to the Starboard B Boat and saved them."
