In 1854, Susan Cromwell, the wife of Captain Peter Cromwell, had just received a letter from her husband. His letter was written during the winter, and it was now June. Susan had a new, unnamed, baby and two more children at home. She wrote this letter to her "Dear Husband" about the family and daily life without him. Life apart required a lot of faith, and everyone hoped for a letter to report on the progress at home and sea.
