Saturday 31. Light winds and cloudy employed in Ships Duty at 10 A. M. a Sail reported from the mast-head the first one for abut 2 months. at 2 PM Spoke [?] the [guvmen?] bark of Sydney 19 days out no oil.
Sunday 1 Janaury the 1the 1837
All these 24 hours light winds and fine weather in company with the bark at
sunset [Shorend?] Sail and Stud along together headed to the north Lat by ob
36 = 26 S Long 170 E by a Lunan
Monday 2, Light winds and variable in sight of the bark a 9 A.M. Saw a school of sperm whales going quick we lowered all 4 boats and chaist them 4 hours and did not get within a mile of them. Lat by ob 36 = 12 S, Long = 169 = 10 E.
Tuesday 3. Light wind and find wether at 6 A.M. rose a school of whales in sight of land lowered and got 3. 150 days out.
Wednesday 4, fine weather with the wind from the S.W. employed in cutting in latter part commenst boiling crossing clost in with the land. Lat 36. = 21
Thursday 5, All these 24 hours light winds and fine weather employed in boiling Standing Clost in with the land Shorts tacks of So ends these 24 hours with the wind W. N. W.
